THE NUDE POUT SPICES UP

Matte lips are getting a boost this season. Sydney-based Make-up and hair stylist Craig Beaglehole’s pick is a NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin (available at Mecca – RRP $40). “Its a beautiful cinnamon plum shade that goes with everything and is not too light and not too dark. I’d call it the perfect deep nude!.” Once powdery and dry, today’s matte formulations use hydrating gel to provide a velvety, moisturised finish whilst nourishing the lip (ideal for the cooler months when they tend to chap). “They glide on and stay on without looking heavy or chalky.”

Unlike gloss or sheeny lipsticks, flat pigment stays put the longest which means no mess on cups, clothes… or other people's faces! For staying power, “add NARS Rosebud Lip Liner for extra definition,” adds Craig. Also consider using a lip brush to push dense pigment into the lip for precision and longevity, then blot with a tissue and layer more colour. Come evening, simply re-touch lips and work on a moody, sultry eye.
